DESIGN CONCEPT
MILANO was designed by Italian architects F.Gabbiani and A.Destefanis of Kokaistudios. They established a permanent office in Shanghai in 2002 to work on several architectural and interior design projects, the most important of which being the commission to restore and re-develop the prestigious BUND # 18 building on Shanghai¡®s historic waterfront (www.bund18.com). A project for which Kokaistudios have been recognized with the Award of distinction by UNESCO in the 2006 Asia Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation Programme.
For the MILANO project the task was to create a classic yet modern environment which was achieved by using classic materials such as wood, white marble and grey stone, but used in a modern shape. Another key feature in the dining area was to remain a ceiling height of 4.5m, creating an open, airy space in order to enjoy the food to its fullest.
